How To Eliminate Guilt And Shame Feelings?
Almost of your feelings affect your health if can be happiness, proud etc but how you can deal with guilt and shame.
Let's see what can be done about guilt. However, many event, situations and also persons were reasons for this feelings. There are a lot of reasons make us feeling guilty as not doing something or anything when the situation called for it or bad behavior.
Feeling guilty about something involves:
-The effects of the past actions are not changeable.
- Expecting punishment.
- Focusing on past actions.
The guilt can affect your health, can shorten your life too by weakens your immune system, increasing cortisol levels (cortisol is a stress hormone which make you "fight or flight" respinse. It activate systems to fight and increase blood pressure and heart disease, diabetes, depression, anxiety disorders. Feeling guilty can affect your mental health and well-being which can increases a negative thinking and becomes worse if the person had depression. Suffering with depression with guilt feeling that leads the person to negative cognition, tells to themselves how they are worthless, they are not good enough or they are not loved. Getting a negative opinions about themselves then they start to have a low self-esteem issues. They become more depressed and can lead to self-harm and also if you live with aomeone in same situation it cannot help you but it increase your symptom and starting having another episode of depression and starting guilt if you did not; (Social media can affect your self-harm, depression and guilt feelings by watching same situations and discussing people with mental illnesses) as your therapy cannot help you by disactivate negative social media conversation but you must work to yourself and reacting as asking yourself and others why Am I feeling guilty? Feeling guilty can be sometimes with you for a while but how you can deal with this feelings.
There are a few steps to deal with guilt:
- Accept what has happened: if you are suffering with what happened in the past for some events or transagression. You cannot turn back time, you need to start surviving and accepting this events"what happened"and nothing you can do can change that fact 😔😔😔😔.
- Apologize if necessary: if you are wrong person to someone and feeling ashamed to what you did to them.
- Understand how to change your situation: Firstly, understand that you cannot so anything to change what has happened in the past. After, understand where you are and try to change it. Trying to forgive yourself and giving another chance. Maybe what you did before can make you feel guilty but thinking about what you can do dor change that make you feel less guilty. "If you feel guilty by something you do then stop doing it".
- Doing a good things: doing something good can help you to decrease from this toxic feelings. (As being volunteering or helping out the community).
-Doing something to yourself: replacing bad feelings by doing a good things to yourself that make you feel good and positive.
-Learning a good things "new": Try something new you never did before. Concentrate about thinking of a good thing than focusing of feeling guilty "create goals and try to attempt your objectivea". Changing your thoughts to positive and good idea to make you grow in a positive way.
-Celebrate your small good thing: Be proud to yourself if only just you apologize to someone. It was enough than feeling shame.
-Turning guilt to gratitude: the guilt can make you honest by yourself but trying to focus on looking in a positive way that can teach you and help you how you behave better.
- Don't punish yourself and being so hard: Stop having a low opinion of yourself, you are not perfect but remember it is no one perfect too. Do not punish yourself for something you cannot change it. Just be good to yourself to not affect your mental health and your physique, try to practice self-compassion, self-talk to get a positive thoughy after practicing this method you will release your change from your behavior too and starting your life change itself for a good thing, also your goals start achieve it one by one . Then, you can grow your self-esteem.
- Seek a professional help: If you tried to decrease and stop feeling guilt and shame with no success you can seek a help especially if that feelings affect your life everyday. Seeking help from professional, love yourself and fight back with everything to don't let a guilt destroy you.
